I Install & Test the GM Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS on My 2024 GMC Sierra HD Truck
In this video I share my experience installing and testing the OEM Trailer TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) from GM on my 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. This is the same system on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks and some of GMs other half-ton trucks as well. I share everything from the install of the sensors on my RV trailer tires to the setup/pairing and then the overall experience and reliability after using the system for about a month across several trips.

    What do you use for navigation in that truck, the vehicles system or a dedication separate RV nav unit?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 21 час назад

      I use my Google maps via Android Auto. GMs built-in nav is nearly the same thing being Google powered, but it does require a data connection to be fully operational, which of course is an extra monthly fee via OnStar unless you use your phone as hotspot to provide WiFi to truck. All that to say using Google maps via Android Auto and your phone is simpler and more up to date with traffic and routes. 16:13 vs 16:50 is a good comparision between the two.

      @@AdventureRocks Yes, and in talking to friends or family that have tried to get their truck reprogrammed by a dealer or another shop that does mechanical and tires, no one is cooperative in wanting to change the parameters and I sense its because of possible liability reasons. Its completely insane, all vehicles before the invention of the TPMS one puts the air that is required into the tire for the purpose at hand ( having a tire chart and real time axle weights to work off of ) and now dealers or even tire shops will put the air pressure in the tires that the door jamb lists and not even listen to the customer who knows they drive the vehicle almost empty. Thank you. I've got a similar one on a Renogy lithium here: ruclips.net/video/6Bt7CI7QZ7s/видео.html Basically the biggest obstacle is swapping out converter/charger, as oftentimes RV manufacturers ship with an outdated converter/charger that is designed for lead-acid batteries with a different charging profile/floating voltage comapred to lithium, so if you don't swap the charger (or converter/charger if it is an all-in-one like the NoBo 10.6), then you'll only get about 80% charge or so on the lithium. This can vary so you'll hear about some folks not updating the charger...but it is true you'll limit use of lithium if you're using a lead-acid-based charger. Anyway, NoBo may have changed this on the more current model years so double check on yours in advance. Otherwise if your converter/charger is lithium compatible, it's as easy as dropping in the new lithium battery and duplicating connections. Battleborn makes great batteries, but in today's times there are a lot of other brands that make great lithium batteries at a more affordable price (even more affordable than Renogy).

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 2 дня назад

      Great question. There are different sizes of alternators on engines, some even have dual alternators. I think you could reach the limit of your engine's alternator and then need a larger or second one if running multiple appliances off it. The DC-DC charger you mentioned is very similar to the EcoFlow alternator/charger, so it could be too much depending on size of existing engine alternator.

    As long as the oil is ILSAC GF-6 and API SP , it's fine. Direct injection engines really need that SP rating. The GEN 3 is just a new spec for lower viscosity for " better fuel mileage" . Just more CAFE bs. As long as your oil is SP rated to stop low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), you are all good.

    Our furrion AC started tripping the circuit breaker and it will turn on then off. Do you think this is the issue with the humidity?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 3 дня назад

      Usually if a breaker is tripping repeatedly it indicates overdrawn amperage, meaning the AC is pulling too much current. Typically an AC is on its own breaker, usually 20A or higher. There could be an issue in the 120V power feeding AC, or some component in AC is failing causing it to pull more amps than expected. Hard to say...a lot of factors, and more diagnosis needed by a tech perhaps, but I don't think my solution in this video will solve your problem unfortunately. I'm sorry about that and hope you all can figure it out.

    Are you able to leave sleeping bags inside ?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 6 дней назад

      With the way it folds on the bed/floor the mattress takes up most of the space between two floor planels when folded...maybe if they were super thin and spread out? It could compress the mattress over time? However, there is some surplus room on either side of the ladder where it stores before closing the outer hardshell...plenty of space there. I guess that's one downside to mention.

    Do you know who manufactured the seating under the murphy bed? I have an older model 21BHE that has very uncomfortable seat cushion/backrest that I would like to replace with what you have. Looks far more comfortable.

      As best I can tell it is like a toy hauler jackknife sofa...just has Lippert Components listed on tag...no specific model I can see. Not sure if they list on their site, but here's a link just in case: www.lippert.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=murphy%20bed%20jackknife%20sofa

    Does that dehumidifier run off 12 volts?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 6 дней назад

      Mine is 120V due to compressor demands: ruclips.net/video/btpii1mjy_s/видео.html It has WiFi connectivity so I can easily monitor while it is stored (I keep mine plugged into to shore power in storage). I would imagine we'll start seeing some better 12V dehumifiers come to market soon with advances in compressor technology though.

    The smaller compartment is tiny! I wanted a dual function in order to have both a fridge and freezer at the same time but something with the same size space.

      Great point. There are some larger ones, but more a bit more expensive. ICECO just released one in aluminum that I plan to test and feature soon.

    Im curious about your purchase price for this unit

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 6 дней назад

      You should be able to get about 20-30% off MSRP depending on the age of unit on lot and where you purchase. I've seen some left over previous model years go for as low as $25K before fees & taxes. I highly recommend Jackson @ Cookeville RV & Marine (931) 646-4678 - they'll treat you right.

    For the ceiling fan upgrades did you have to remove the sealant on the roof and then reapply?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 7 дней назад

      Yes, it was a PAIN. Always a big inconvenience, but I've had to do it on pretty much every RV I've owned. Just have to take your time and carefully scrape/pull away at the old sealant without damaging the roof membrane. Typically you'll need about 1-2 tubes of lap-sealant per 14" vent, so I needed 4 total combined. And you have to use the Alpha systems sealant (instead of more common Dicor) for the Imagine XLS as they use a different membrane.

    Great video. I've been interested in the 2024 2500HD with the 6.6 gasser. Does that digital dashboard have an alternate setting/display that shows engine oil pressure somewhere and is there a display that shows transmission oil temperature?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 7 дней назад

      Thank you. Yes, basically in the center area of display if you scroll through all the parameters it eventually shows up there. Just no current gear display.

    • @omcbob37
      @omcbob37 7 дней назад

      @@AdventureRocks Thanks for the info. Hard to believe they wouldn't have a current gear display, especially if you're using tow/haul mode. I assume you can put the Allison transmission into a manual shift mode when you are towing?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 6 дней назад

      @@omcbob37 Indeed, strange since Ford and RAM show current gear...just not possible with GM. You can shift into "gear limit" - L mode and then limit the highest gear though, so that's unaffected. The trans will also hold current gear pretty well when in tow/haul and you hit brakes on grade. Here's a video showing a 3rd party OBDII reader showing current gear: ruclips.net/video/KTpE6s-kfJY/видео.html

    How did you adapt the charge connector to this newer tablet?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 7 дней назад

      I ended up sticking to the OEM tablet and replacing battery to fix mine, but if needed depending on which aftermarket tablet and connector type...just have to create a new USB-C style plug or lengthen existing micro USB plug. Worst case could get a 12V to 5V adapter and piggy-back off existing 12V feed nearby and make a custom plug.

    • @scottbyrd4416
      @scottbyrd4416 7 дней назад

      I replaced the battery but not sure the solder job did a good job. It turns on but wanted to shut off again quickly. Big hands and tiny wires make it tough. Gonna try again as i do want to keep the OEM tablet. Thanks for the great videos on this subject.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks 6 дней назад

      @@scottbyrd4416 I hear you. The wires are SO tiny and hard to work with. I'd say if you can find a way to salvage OEM tablet that is ideal, otherwise the aftermarket option is a good second alternative. I've also seen some OEM units on eBay from a surplus store at $200ish, and I've heard the new BMPRO tablets in 2024 units have skipped the internal battery altogether and now use 12V coach power instead.

    Fuel mileage? Towing 5th wheel and empty on highway?

    Big hint for dually pick ups of all brands: do not wear out your tires up front. Every 15-20k miles buy two new tires of the brand you want to own. Put them on the front and rotate the best old ones to the back . At 45-60k you will have matching tires . Saves a ton of wear on front end parts
